Mitchell Channon Design Earns Top Design Industry Award

Published: September 23rd, 2013

Being a Chicago interior designer is always a privilege, but last Thursday night made it a thrill!  At its annual Design Excellence Awards Gala, the Illinois chapter of American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) awarded Mitchell Channon Design its top prize of “Best of Show” in Residential Design .  The event, held at the Art Institute in the Louis Sullivan-designed Trading Room of the old Stock Exchange building, honors “distinctive and exceptional work within the design community.”  Each year, designers submit their entries in residential, contract, and product design categories.  The blind competition is judged by a panel comprised of recognized leaders in the interior design industry.

The “Best of Show” award honors a project we recently completed in Winnetka.  The owners of this newly-built luxury home challenged us to retain the architecture but soften its formality.  Stylish furnishings and the innovative use of form and color meet the challenge.  The resulting design reveals how the intricate interplay of contemporary and traditional notes brings harmony to a home.   Below are photos of the family room and dining room.   Click here to see more of  this now award-winning design.

And yes, that’s me below with a handful of happiness and face full of gratitude to all of my amazing clients.  It’s a privilege indeed!

The family room walls feature a warm raffia texture that enhances the informality of the home, while the bright turquoise ceiling adds a vivid and unexpected contrast to the mahogany trim.
