Red and Green are NOT just for Christmas!

Published: December 7th, 2015

If ever a color scheme evokes a particular holiday season, it’s probably the omnipresent combo of red and green that establishes the season of stockings hung over fireplaces, evergreen trees bedecked with shiny red ornaments and lights,  and a mythical figure in a bright red suit whooshing over snow-covered rooftops in a sleigh.

But just as the red and green combo enlivens the home in the dead of winter, so it can bring a certain panache to any room at any time. Red and green aren’t just for Christmas.

No less an icon than Dorothy Draper, one of the earliest modern interior designers in America, used red and green throughout her work. Known for using large scale patterns and vibrant splashes of color, her design of the Greenbrier Resort is a perfect example. The crimson red staircase elegantly complements the large green leaf print wallpaper. The super high gloss black and white floor imbues the design with a bold and graphic punch. Nothing Christmas about this interior!
