Tea-height Tables for Casual Living
Published: October 26th, 2015
Formal is out and casual is in, so I’m always looking for practical strategies to accentuate the informal way we like to live. One of my go-to products for this are tea-height tables. Higher than a coffee table but lower than a dining table, the tea-height table may sound formal but is ideal for entertaining guests buffet style or just for cocktails and appetizers.
At a height of 25”-26” and 5”-6” of knee space, the tea-height table works beautifully as a second seating group in a living room. Pair it with a group of lounge chairs or a settee and you have a great space for informal dining and conversation.
When it comes to finding just the right table, get creative. We recently fell in love with a side table from Mecox, but it wasn’t the right height or width for the space. So we kept the table as a pedestal base and added a custom espresso top, creating a practical piece with a smashing sculptural accent.
The Screw Table from Orange Skin with adjustable height and a white marble top is one of my favorite design solutions. The table’s cast iron base has an industrial look but works in a variety of settings.
Lastly, check out this Gunsight Table from Holly Hunt. With a pair of lounge chairs, this tea-height table creates a perfect balance of elegance and informality.
If you are craving a casual space, the tea-height table is a must-have design solution.
