Bedroom in a Garden: Design for Spring

Published: May 17th, 2018

Nothing like a Spring event to tantalize us with dreams of cool evenings in the garden. So when the River North Design District, along with Chicago Luxury Beds and Luxe Interiors + Design invited Mitchell Channon Design to create a bedroom vignette for their fourth annual Dreaming of Design showcase, we were drawn to Chicago’s motto, “City in a Garden.” With fantasies of “glamping” (glamorous camping!) in a lush, exotic setting, we imagined an ethereal and romantic “bedroom in a garden.”

The modern Roche -Bobois “Cherche-Midi” bed, upholstered in neutral leathers of cream and black, efficiently incorporates lighting and bedside tables, while the teal and blush crushed velvet fabrics by Mokum, fashioned into a bedspread by Workroom Couture Home, puddles indulgently to the floor. The tenting fabric from Classic Cloth/ Dessin Fournir, also fabricated and installed by Workroom Couture Home, envelopes the room in a luxe sensibility. The feel extends to the hair-on-hide embossed rug from Oscar Isberian Rugs in dark green, creating a verdant landscape. A vintage, richly patina-ed Turkish rug from Organic Looms provides an exotic counterpoint. Finally the Osborne and Little wallpaper, “Giardino Segreto,” completes the glamping effect. As exotic water birds soar over abundant foliage, we dream of our own exuberant flight.
