Pure Fun: Interior Design in A Sondheim/Marsalis Show

Published: November 25th, 2013

This was pure fun!   A photo of one of our interior design projects was featured in a recent collaboration between Broadway composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim and jazz master Wynton Marsalis.   The production, entitled, “A Bed and A Chair,” played at New York City Center and featured Broadway stars Bernadette Peters,  Jeremy Jordan, Norm Lewis, and jazz artist Cyrille Aimée, along with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.  As the only furnishings on stage were a bed and a chair, (of course!), the production relied heavily on projected images to create a sense of home and place.

The photo selected from our interior design portfolio was of a living room in a  lakefront tudor home on Chicago’s North Shore.  The sleek design had previously earned a Design Excellence Award from the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).  Here’s a photo of the room, followed by its placement in the show, behind Norm Lewis and Cyrille Aimée, who sang a jazz-infused version of “You Could Drive A Person Crazy” from the Sondheim masterpiece, “Company.”   One of many great moments in the show!
